"Are You Happy Baby" is a 1981 single written by Bob Stone and performed by Dottie West. The song became one of West's signature tunes.
"Are You Happy Baby" was Dottie West's second number number one hit as a solo artist [1]. In twenty-five year career, she only scored 2 #1 hits. The previous one, was recorded in 1980 called "A Lesson in Leaving". However, as duet partnership with Kenny Rogers, West scored 3 #1 hits over the course of three years. "Are You Happy Baby" was released on Dottie West's newest album Wild West, which became one of Dottie's most successful albums as a solo artist. At the time of the album's release, she was at the peak of her career.
The song also had a Countrypolitan sound to it. West was trying to stay "in" with the new artists and decided to record Countrypolitan, which might have been the reason for the song's success, as well as her other #1 hit.
Most recently, the song was featured on Dottie West: Greatest Hits album in 1992, as well as Are You Happy Baby: The Collection, which featured West's biggest hits, starting from 1976 until 1984.
In 1980, Johnny Contardo of Sha Na Na also released a version on his album Changeover.
